How We First Met: (told from Amy’s perspective): We had both signed up for the Lucerne Half Marathon on October 30, 2016. I was running along around kilometer 7 when I looked over and saw Thomas. Our eyes met and when I first saw him, it was as if my heart recognized him, and I said, “Hey.”–so casual as if he was an old friend. He said, “Hi!” with a big grin on his face. We kept running and always had each other in view. On the downhills, I would speed up and lose sight of him. On the uphills, he would catch up and we would make eye contact again. I was wearing headphones listening to pump up music. I lost my internet connection around Kastanienbaum, and I was messing with my iPhone headphones. He took the opportunity to make a joke, “that I could listen to the birds singing now.” When we reached Horw, I gave in and said, “do you wanna run together?” He said sure. We didn’t talk much, but his mere presence by my side was so comforting and felt so good. A complete stranger, but it felt right. Near the end of the race, we had to part ways because I was running the Duo-Marathon, and had to pass my Baton off to my running partner. Thomas suggested meeting for a finisher’s beer. I agreed, but we didn’t find each other after the race. A few hours later, I was sitting at Pickwicks, a local bar, talking to my friends about this guy I met while I was running. I checked my cellphone, and there was a message from Thomas Niederberger on Facebook. He had memorized my bib number and researched my name and found me online. I was so happy to hear from him. The rest is history…
Ours is a love story so amazing only God Himself could have planned. From the first meeting at the Marathon to our angels Calypsa and Charlie, He has been blessing us all along the way.
